saturday was the day of the boys…both sessions were all boys! i felt right at home, of course (having three of my own at home). beautiful weather, beautiful settings…ahhh…it was a great day.

no more refreshing

April 21, 2008

they don’t look anything alike, but these two handsome 18 month boys are twins. i had so much fun chasing them around (yes, that’s what i did the whole session)! i think we were all ready for a nap by the end…

ok, so the cute mother of these twins wrote me saying she has been refreshing every half an hour waiting to see the sneak peek of her two cuties. the wait is over…enjoy!

are you ready for this?

my heart is full

April 16, 2008

meet k. she is like every other little six year old girl…except that she just had brain and skull surgery a month ago. her mother realized in the hospital that she didn’t have any pictures with her little girl…so that’s where i came in. i feel completely honored and privileged to have spent time with these two and capture them together.

little k has been through so much and yet had the most wonderful, beautiful spirit. this session was a celebration of her…and the amazing relationship she has with her mother.

I hope her mother doesn’t mind if I share her words…”a woman once told me that to have a child is to suddenly wear your heart outside of your body…exposed and vulnerable. when i became a mother, i understand those words with blinding clarity.”

go on, go give your kids a GIANT hug.

ugh

April 13, 2008

yes, the title of my post is ugh. this weather is ugh. just when i thought it was spring. it tricked us last weekend with this amazing almost-summer-like-weather, and now i look out my window to see SNOW.

i was bummed when a few sessions had to be rescheduled due to the atrocity outside, but my session with this little one put the happy back in my day. she is one of those who spreads sunshine wherever she goes…here are a few faves from our session…

a photographer’s lament

April 11, 2008

i am a photographer. i am also a mother. a mother of three boys where a huge reason for becoming a photographer was so that i could have fabulous shots of my boys. well, someone forgot to tell me that becoming a photographer would actually have an adverse effect on the “fabulous shots of my kids” theory.

apparently, mommy is just mommy, whether she has a camera and claims she is a photographer or not.

so, more often than not, this is what i might get…

but, after all of the weird armpit noises that only boys do, a few treats, a couple of shoves to big brother, and a bathroom break, i just might get something like this, and i am a happy mom. it’s not perfect, but it is our life. our imperfect, wonderfully happy life. and that’s what i want to remember.

and my little one? he’s not hard to please…he’s just happy to be along for the ride…

so, what is the conclusion to all of this? mostly that i just love my kids. and i love my job.

chicago

April 7, 2008
