May 8, 2012Beautiful Ashley. We have been trying to make this session happen for months. Weather, activities, and crazy schedules happened. But, we finally got together and I knew she would be fabulous. You see, I already know her as I first met her when I photographed her older sister’s senior pictures FOUR YEARS AGO!!!

November 16, 2011I know…you want to squeeze her, hate her for her beauty, sign her up for America’s Next Top Model, and elect her for president of the Hot Club all at the same time. This is my Hayley. Yep, MY Hayley. I’ve known her since a week after I moved to Michigan four and half years ago. And now, she is all grown up and a high school senior.
The truth is, there is more happiness, kindness, wisdom, and funness (I’m going to stop apologizing for my made up words) than I have ever seen in a girl this age. She is beyond special and has a beautiful soul to match her beautiful face.
I have photographed her before (here and here) and I have mushed about her just as much. I love you Hayley! Happy Senior Year!!!

step out of the zone
November 15, 2011The photography comfort zone, that is.
You know you are snuggled right between I-am-kind-of-finding-my-style-and-groove and ACK-I-need-to-improve-my-photography.
We’re all stuck there most of the time.
Try something new.
A new pose.
A new lighting scenario.
A new genre of subject or people that is out of your norm.
A new location.
“New forces us to become better versions of what we already are” – Jean Smith (made up right now)
Shooting at night has always intimidated me a bit. So, I forced myself to do it. And, it WAS forcing in the beginning. I learned one thing and made ten mistakes. Next time, I learned two things and made five mistakes. And so it goes. I am always learning, but I am finding that I LOVE shooting at night. So, I was thrilled when the beautiful Miss Natalie (high school senior) specifically requested some of her shoot take place at night.
