mini sessions

March 9, 2011

Finally…mini sessions! It has been THREE YEARS since I have offered mini sessions! There are only ten spots available, so contact me at jean@jeansmithphotography.com asap if you would like one of the spots!

Just a bit of fine print. The mini sessions are for CHILDREN only. The sessions are for 1-3 children, ages 6 months to 16 years old.  They will be held at an outdoor location (still undecided) somewhere within 30 miles of my home in New Hudson. Price of mini session does not include state sales tax.  After the session, the favorite ten images chosen by the client from an online gallery will be sent on a disc in both high resolution (for printing) as well as low resolution (for internet) format.

workshop announcement

September 8, 2010

No, you sillies, I am not holding a workshop.  BUT.  I am announcing a very special, wonderful, brilliant, over the top awesome workshop  by Shannon Sewell.  If you know of her, you are already in love with her work.  If you haven’t, you will be within five minutes of looking at her lovely images.  I was instantly drawn to her images when I was first introduced.   She has a ridiculous talent of stylizing her shoots and then telling a beautiful story through her images.  Her view from the camera is unique and you will find that you just. can’t. stop. looking.  You can find Shannon’s work on her website and her blog.

Intrigued?

Here are the details…

Date:  October 19th (Shannon will be holding her workshop here in Michigan for ONE DAY and one day only)

Time:  10-6 pm

Where: Metro Detroit area

Cost:  $350

Lunch:  Delicious and included!

Seats:  Only 10-15 available

Who is it for: Amateur to professional photographers

What you will learn:  Whether you need inspiration or nitty gritty technique details, Shannon will cover her vision of a shoot, business (including branding, pricing, networking, etc), lighting, equipment, styling, post processing, and working with models. Shannon has packed this workshop with the information that has made her such an incredible photographer. And rumor has it that the styling for the model portion will be “very vogue” and fabulous. Soooo excited about it!

All right folks…it’s all laid out for you.  An amazing photographer offering an equally amazing workshop at a killer price.  Please email me at jean@jeansmithphotography.com if you are interested in registering.

Aaaand, how about a little Shannon Sewell eye candy to end this extremely long post…

photowalk

December 5, 2009

as i started venturing into the world of photography, i had so many ideas of how i wanted to use my photography in ways other than my hobby/job. as life goes on, life gets more busy, and my ideas are there…but they stay tucked away because i am just “too busy.”

well, enter travis, my husband. after talking and dreaming about it for so long, we decided to start our new photography company, boka studios. and with it, came all of HIS ideas of how we could use photography other than just our hobby/job.

the difference between us is that he doesn’t keep his ideas tucked away…he never does. he takes his ideas and puts them into effect…as effortlessly and smoothly as anyone i have ever seen.

so, in the two months we have been working together, we have put into effect a set of mini sessions featuring friends and a contest, a photowalk with 30 other local photographers in detroit, and are hosting a charity event next saturday. and when i say “we,” i mean HE puts everything together and i show up for all the fun. LOVE him.

our first photowalk took place last saturday at eastern market in detroit and we had such a great time meeting other local photographers and “photowalking.” i loved it that there was such a variety of photographers…hobbyist through professional. i loved it that we were at eastern market so that we could experience so many textures, colors, people, and architecture. AND, i loved it that michigan held out for one more day of fantastic weather.

i was herding the kiddie models, so i didn’t get to see or shoot as much of eastern market as i wanted, but here are a few shots of the models i captured. you can see more over on our boka blog.
